How I Work on Expanding My Nervous System to Embrace My Dreams

ree

Visioning is a powerful tool—one that transcends the realm of New Year’s resolutions. It’s not just about setting goals; it’s about opening your nervous system to hold space for the life you truly desire. For me, visioning is most transformative when applied to the blockages that keep me from stepping into my full potential.

Take wealth, for example.

For much of my life, I’ve been comfortable with “just enough.” Asking fo abundance, especially as it relates to money, felt like an uncomfortable notion. The idea of certain sums of money would make my body tense up—as if it were impossible or somehow greedy to aspire to recieve such a number. Oddly enough, I've had this internalized fear that if I desire or ask the universe more, it somehow is showing a lack of gratitude for what I already have. And while rationally I know that isn't the case, it has and still does require intentional effort to reframe those limiting beliefs.

.

Here’s the truth: If we can’t hold space for our dreams, how can we expect to be handed them? We have to believe we’re capable of achieving something before we can truly do it. We had to embrace a potential reality into our hearts in order for it to come true. Thus, our nervous system needs to expand to receive and sustain the goals we envision.

Becoming the Version of Myself Who Can Receive

So, I’ve been working on getting comfortable with financial abundance—not just intellectually but in my body. To do this, I envision the version of myself who earns over $10k a month.

How does she spend her money? What does she invest in? How does she move through the world with this wealth?

Here’s what I’ve realized: While I want savings and financial security, what I truly crave is the freedom to spend. I want to:

  • Invest in high-quality clothes and jewelry that feel special and long lasting.

  • Spoil my family with thoughtful, meaningful gifts.

  • Comfortably host monthly themed dinner parties with incredible food.

  • Invest in my hobbies and buy more art.

  • Travel the world and immerse myself in new cultures.

  • Handle life’s unsexy and unexpected expenses without stress.

  • Take on more pro-bono patients to give more people access to care

When I envision spending this wealth to bring beauty, joy, and richness into my life and the lives of others, my nervous system relaxes. The idea of abundance no longer feels greedy or overwhelming; it feels joyful, expansive, and aligned with my values.

How I Embody Abundance Today

Visioning isn’t just about dreaming; it’s about embodying the life you want right now. Here’s how I do it:

  1. Dress Lavishly (on My Terms): I stopped chasing trends or buying things just because they were on sale. Instead, I curate a capsule wardrobe of high-quality pieces that feel timeless and intentional. Many of these items are ones I find while traveling—local, unique treasures that carry meaning.

  2. Flow Through Generosity: I cook for anyone who visits, even if it’s not a special occasion. I give thoughtful gifts within my budget.

  3. Don't Fixate on Losses: Life brings so many unexpected expenses. An emergency vet appoinment, a car repair, messed up travel, etc. I can't control them but I can control my mindset. When unexpected expenses arise, I don’t fixate on it. I trust that wealth flows back to me.

  4. Spend Money on What Brings Me Joy:I prioritize spending on things that genuinely make me feel good—whether it’s art, good food, or experiences. Conversely, I avoid spending on things that feel wasteful to me, like $20 cocktails that only lead to headaches.

  5. Sit in Gratitude: No matter what my bank account looks like, I always feel rich. Why? Because I am filled with so much love, purpose, inspiration, and passion. Things money could never buy. This gratitude expands my capacity to hold more.

Why Visioning Works

When you envision your desired reality, you’re not just daydreaming—you’re expanding your nervous system to receive what you seek. By imagining yourself already living the life you want, you start to align your actions with that reality. You step into it.

Visioning is about more than achieving goals; it’s about creating space for the life you deserve. You don’t just think about receiving—you think about living it. You move from scarcity to abundance, from fear to alignment, from tension to flow.

So, who is the version of you that you dream of becoming? What does their life look like? What are their habits, choices, and values? Envision it. Embody it. And watch your reality shift to meet you.
